How to Get Booked on Podcasts (and Be a Sought-After Guest)
By Sydney Burke
Podcast appearances are a powerful way to establish credibility and reach niche audiences. A successful guest spot can lead to more subscribers, new clients, and greater visibility — and the advantage outlasts the broadcast, since episodes stay accessible and become repurposable content for your own channels.
Find the right shows
Identify podcasts aligned with your expertise. Search directories like Podchaser and Apple Podcasts using industry keywords, find hosts on LinkedIn and engage with their content, and mine Reddit communities and show notes to understand a podcast’s preferred guests and tone. Personal introductions from colleagues often carry more weight than cold outreach.
Craft your pitch
Hosts get a lot of inquiries, so personalize. Reference a specific episode you enjoyed, clearly state what you offer their audience, demonstrate your credentials concisely, and keep it brief. Include links to your website, LinkedIn, and any previous appearances.
Prepare for interview success
Listen to several episodes to understand the host’s style, clarify the format before recording, and emphasize relatable storytelling over jargon — listeners connect with authentic examples. Identify three to five key takeaways you want the audience to remember.
Extend your reach
After it airs, share the episode across social, LinkedIn, and email, engage with listeners who reach out, and repurpose clips and quotes into posts, graphics, and short videos. Avoid generic pitches and overt self-promotion — prioritize audience value, and the bookings (and the trust) compound.
