Embracing social media for effective public relations (PR)

At Rosarium, we treat every social post like a press release. Sure, you want to post, comment and engage carefully, because anything you put out into the digital world is there permanently. But using social media as your own press release platform is an exciting thing!

·       Work on a smaller budget.

·       Come up with more creative ideas.

·       Share valuable content directly with your audience.

·       Reach more people than with traditional press releases alone.

Perhaps most importantly, social platforms let you test out new creative ideas with little or no cost or risk. You can host a live session with your favorite mentor, set up a giveaway for charity or become a thought leader just by talking into the camera about your area of expertise.

But don’t feel like you have to take on too much at once.

While we encourage clients to have a presence on the majority of social channels, you don’t need to spread yourself too thin. Start out by picking the two platforms where your audience spends most of their time. You’re better off giving 100% to two channels versus trying to split yourself into six or seven. And with 3.78 billion social media users worldwide, you’ll have a substantial reach even if you’re only focused on a couple of platforms.

The important thing is to get started. Social media is an invaluable tool for actively engaging with a larger audience, setting trends, building trust and cultivating a sense of community. But it only works if you use it. See you out there!
